NEWBURYPORT The following items were recorded in the Newburyport police log: Melanie Lores, 50, 2 Broad St., Newburyport, was arrested Friday at 7:38 p.m. and charged with reckless endangerment of a child, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Officers Edward Rice and Michael Sugrue made the arrest on Merrimac Street.

HARTLAND, Maine -- I spent the July Fourth weekend lying in a hammock on the shore of a pond in central Maine. I liked it so much, I'm going back this month. Big activities planned include listening for loon calls, watching the moon rise and picking sprigs of wild mint. Maybe I'll take a canoe out -- but only if I get really ambitious.
